At Home Too, Celebrities Are Busy Spreading Cheer

Celebrities are not the most relatable individuals, with their Olympic-sized pools and NBA-sized basketball courts. However, right now they are doing their best to encourage their fans and followers. Many have shared inspirational posts on their social media platforms, with millions on the receiving end. Others have engaged in silly fun, whether on YouTube or TikTok, to make people smile. Still more, many have joined social media challenges for good causes.

Actress Gal Gadot gathered a group of famous celebrities, including Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, to create her message of inspiration. Gadot wrote in an Instagram post, “We are in this together. We will get through this together. Let’s imagine together.” Combined with her inspirational words were the other celebrities singing “Imagine” by John Lennon. People were quick to like, and her post blew up to almost 10 million views and 2 million likes.

While many people are trying to binge TV shows, unfortunately some favorites like The Handmaiden’s Tale, Supernatural and The Walking Dead have postponed filming and delayed the release of new seasons. On new streaming site Disney+, Marvel universe shows Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision have been postponed until further notice. However, Saturday Night Live has posted new content from the comedians’ homes and made their videos relatable during the shared quarantine.

To keep people entertained, many celebrities have appeared on the popular app TikTok to remind people to stay inside with the #HappyAtHome challenge. Stars like Terry Crews, Charli D’ Amelio and Camila Cabello will tune into TikTok live and chat with people. TikTok hopes to “help [people] embrace the importance of social distancing, but also bring some genuine comfort and connection in a very isolating moment in time,” according to Adweek magazine.

Every now and then celebrities will post funny TikToks to share some happiness and joy during these times. For example, Kylie Jenner lip syncs to her sisters’ funniest sayings with her mom, Kris Jenner. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has posted a couple videos with his daughter doing famous TikTok dances.

Another new social media challenge is the “The All in Challenge,” which provides food for kids, older individuals, and front-line heroes. How does it work? The challenge involves an online auction where people get the chance to win a fun experience offered by famous stars. To enter, you make a donation starting at $10 and then choose which offer you want to be entered in. Each dollar counts for one offer, so the more you donate, the better chance you have of winning.

Music artists like Justin Bieber, Drake and Shawn Mendes, have said they would meet with fans and either come to their home or have them be on the set of their next music video. Actor Chris Evans said that he would set up a Zoom call with some of his close friends to play virtual games with the winner. The “Friends” cast accepted the challenge and will give one lucky winner the opportunity to have a VIP experience with the actual Cast. However, none of these opportunities compare with Chris Pratt’s extraordinary gift of being in the upcoming “Jurassic World: Dominion” film and getting eaten by a dinosaur!

We missed several celebrity events these past months, one being the Met Gala. Though we cannot actually watch the live Met Gala event this year, one court room sketch artist has designed looks that celebrities might have worn if the event was not cancelled. According to the artist, Frank Ocean would have been walking the red carpet in Prada, Timothée Chalamet in Thom Browne, Lizzo in Schiaparelli x Dalî and Harry Styles in Gucci.

Everyone, especially now, should find the time to search for the lighthearted good in their situation, like so many celebrities are trying to do. As Singer Haley Kiyoko posted on Instagram, “It’s okay to feel uncomfortable, upset, lost, frustrated, we have to go through the grieving process but once we do, we will see the beauty of now. And we will triumph.”
